LED light ‘island’ created
A US island has been entirely converted to LED lighting.
Called North Dumpling, the island measures just three acres and is owned by inventor Dean Kamen.
The island lies to the east of Connecticut and receives no power from the US’s national grid.
Mr Kamen was inspired to make North Dumpling entirely self-sufficient in regard to its power needs.
LED lights installed by the inventor run on solar power and have reduced the amount of energy used by 70 per cent.
Mr Kamen believes the island could encourage the uptake of LED technology across the world.
“With increasing strain on our world’s energy resources, our goal is to make North Dumpling a small but prominent example of what can be achieved on a larger scale,” he said.
“It’s an excellent demonstration of science and engineering as the antidote to the complex challenges of our time.”
Figures from Total Solar Energy reveal that LED lights running on solar power can operate for 50 times longer than traditional bulbs.
I would recommend LED Synergy to anyone considering purchasing an LED sign. We have had so many compliments since it was installed and it has been a valuable asset.
