Green bus gets LED boards
LED screens are expected to be installed on the newest models of London’s iconic red buses.
The Routemaster ranges of buses were slammed by former London mayor Ken Livingston for being inaccessible to disabled people.
However, new proposals see the vehicles modernised so wheelchair users can easily access the double deckers.
In addition, the low-emission engines will release less carbon than previous models while external panels are to be fitted with LED screens displaying adverts.
Traditional features of the older vehicles will feature in the newer models such as wooden flooring.
Sam Mullins, director of the London Transport Museum, explained that older buses also mixed modern elements and traditional styles.
“The winning designs here work in just the same way – part retro, part hi-tech, and with a distinctive look which immediately says London,” he told the Independent.
Elsewhere, the Toronto Transit Commission recently revealed that 350 of its bus shelters will be installed with LED screens displaying travel information.
I would recommend LED Synergy to anyone considering purchasing an LED sign. We have had so many compliments since it was installed and it has been a valuable asset.
