LED light sculptures unveiled

A South African town has unveiled a series of festive sculptures which have been adorned with LED lights.

The Why Men installation has been launched by Sandton Central Management District (SACMD) and retailer Mzansi Romance.

Each of the sculptures in Sandton is shaped like a man with the largest one measuring six metres high.

The town has been lit-up with Why Men since 2006 but this year the sculptures are the biggest yet.

LED lights were chosen as they have a longer life and are more energy-efficient.

Cara Reilly, marketing manager for SACMD, states that the sculptures will have a large impact on shoppers in the area.

“It’s the largest Why Man the project has ever seen, and immediately stops you in your tracks,” she told website the City of Johannesburg.

“We’re planning on reinventing the concept each year so that no festive season in Sandton Central looks the same.”

In addition to adorning the sculptures, LED lights have also been used to decorate streets in the town.
