LED screens for Indian city

The Indian city of Shimla is to install a number of LED screens at some of the most sought-after locations in the area.

Indopia reports that Shimla Municipal Corporation has given the go-ahead for the construction of the new LED screens at the Ridge park and the Mall road.

Along with providing the installation company with an opportunity to make money from selling advertising time on the LED screens, the local authority also plans to use the LED boards to provide local information.

Details relating to taxes and bills will be displayed on the LED screens, the corporation said, as well as regional information such as the weather forecast.

The screens will be used during big events, such as international cricket matches, for the public to watch live and for free, providing the area with a focal point.

Large LED screens are becoming increasingly common around the world. It was recently announced that baseball team the Tri-City Dust Devils in the US were installing a new LED scoreboard in place of their old one.
