LED boards installed in supermarket
Tesco stores in Ireland will soon be installing LED boards.
The company recently revealed that is plans to replace neon signs with the innovative screens in a bid to reduce its carbon footprint.
Gaelite Signs is teaming up with the supermarket giant to install the energy-saving boards.
Figures from the store show that at present the amount of energy used to power its neon lights is to equivalent taking 335 return flights from Dublin to New York.
However, the LED boards will see this figure reduce to the equivalent of 19 return flights.
Michael McNerney, energy manager of Tesco Ireland, stated that the innovative boards will have a significant impact on the supermarkets’ carbon footprint.
“Tesco is determined to reduce its carbon emissions – replacing our neon signs with LEDs will make a major contribution,” he told the Herald.
The company states that it has included a range of energy-saving devices in its stores recently such as LED lighting and wind turbines.
