Coca-Cola LED sign going green
An iconic New York LED sign is set to become more environmentally-friendly.
The Coca-Cola LED billboard will be powered by alternative sources of energy when midnight strikes at Times Square on New Year’s Eve.
Instead of traditional sources of energy, the innovative board is to run on wind power which is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 376 tonnes per year.
In addition, surrounding LED signs in Times Square plan to convert to natural energy which will further reduce the amount of carbon released.
Dana Barba, assistant vice president of portfolio operations, Coca-Cola North America, revealed that the company is pleased to introduce the environmentally-friendly screens.
“Coca-Cola has always held a historic place in Times Square where we’ve been one of the longest continuous billboard advertisers – starting in 1932,” she said.
“We are proud to lead this renewable energy movement on the Great White Way.”
The sign was updated in 2004 and currently features a light sculpture made entirely from LED bulbs.
I would recommend LED Synergy to anyone considering purchasing an LED sign. We have had so many compliments since it was installed and it has been a valuable asset.
